Uber has launched its flagship electric vehicle service, Uber Green, in Kolkata, marking a significant move towards eco-friendly urban transportation. Uber has become the second ride-hailing service in Kolkata to introduce electric vehicles, following Snap E, which runs an all-electric fleet.

“Enhancing Kolkata’s air quality is a collective responsibility. I commend Uber for launching ‘Uber Green’ in Kolkata, a significant move towards reducing carbon emissions in our city,” stated West Bengal Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty.

“This service enables residents to easily book zero-emission rides through the Uber app, supporting sustainable travel across the city, including routes to and from Kolkata International Airport,” Uber stated.

The company did not reveal the number of vehicles available under Uber Green or its expansion plans for the city.

Uber has pledged to become a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2030 in Europe and North America, and globally by 2040. According to the company, EV drivers on Uber are transitioning to electric vehicles five times faster than the general public.
