The atmosphere was electric as FC Bayern Munich Basketball emerged victorious against Alba Berlin, clinching the German Basketball Championship for the sixth time in the club’s history. The decisive win, an 88-82 triumph in the fourth game of the final series, took place last Friday, leaving fans and players elated. This victory marks the second title this year for the team under coach Pablo Laso, following their BBL Pokal win at BMW Park in February.

The championship game was not only a significant milestone for FC Bayern Munich Basketball but also a celebration for their mobility partner, BMW München. This collaboration, in its first year, has already yielded remarkable success on and off the court. BMW München and FCBB’s joint initiative, “Dunks for Tomorrow,” concluded with an impressive 141 dunks, resulting in a €141,000 donation to SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. This organization supports children and young people through various educational projects.

During the regular season and the final series against Berlin, FCBB showcased an exciting style of play, delivering eight spectacular dunks in the final home games at BMW Park. Key players, including world champions Andreas Obst, Isaac Bonga, and Niels Giffey, contributed significantly to the team’s success and the initiative’s dunk tally.

Last Tuesday, a symbolic handover ceremony took place at the BMW München branch, where Bernd Döpke, Head of BMW München, presented a basketball hoop and two basketballs to Anna Pönisch, Head of Marketing at SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. This gesture represented the donation sum and emphasized the joy and opportunities it would bring to children in SOS-Kinderdorf’s care. “We are pleased that with the ‘Dunks for Tomorrow’ initiative we can support SOS-Kinderdorf’s commitment to educational equity and equal opportunities,” Döpke stated.

The initiative, launched at the start of the season, pledged €1,000 for every dunk scored by FC Bayern Munich Basketball at their home games. Star center Serge Ibaka led the effort with 37 dunks throughout the year. A notable highlight was the EuroLeague clash against Real Madrid, where BMW Spain’s partnership with the Madrid club led to additional donations for each team’s dunks, adding €7,000 to the total.

Marketing Director Pönisch expressed gratitude for the significant support from the initiative, highlighting its impact on the healthy upbringing and sustainable education of children and young people. FC Bayern Munich Basketball ambassador and club legend Steffen Hamann emphasized the additional motivation the initiative provided to the team, contributing to their successful season.
