PT PLN Receives Acclaim For Advancing Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Development In Indonesia

In a recent Public Hearing Meeting (RDP) held in Jakarta, PT PLN (Persero) received praise from Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) for its initiatives in advancing the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the country.

Commission VII DPR RI member, Abdul Kadir Karding, acknowledged PT PLN’s comprehensive plan for EV ecosystem development, emphasizing its significance as the public’s interest in EVs continues to surge. Karding highlighted the notable increase in EV users during the recent Eid festivities.

Echoing Karding’s sentiments, Dyah Roro Esti, another member of Commission VII DPR RI, commended PLN’s innovation in establishing EV infrastructure, particularly the rollout of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU). Esti praised PLN’s target to deploy 2,000 SPKLU by 2024, especially emphasizing the plan to utilize electricity poles for this purpose.

Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in accelerating EV ecosystem development. Prasodjo highlighted the launch of Electric Vehicle Digital Services (EVDS) within the PLN Mobile application, offering comprehensive support to EV users, including information on charging station locations, test drive services, home charging installation applications, an EV marketplace, and travel planning assistance.

Prasodjo emphasized that PLN’s integrated EV ecosystem played a pivotal role during the 2024 Eid homecoming period, with SPKLU deployed across all rest areas of Java and Sumatra toll roads. The surge in transactions and electricity consumption at SPKLU during this period underscored the growing public interest in EVs.

Looking ahead, Prasodjo outlined PLN’s commitment to further innovation and collaboration to expand the SPKLU network nationwide. PLN’s strategy includes leveraging existing electricity poles to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy additional SPKLU, ensuring widespread accessibility for EV users across the country.

The collaborative efforts between PT PLN and the Indonesian government signal a significant stride towards achieving a sustainable and accessible electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia, contributing to the nation’s environmental and energy goals.
