Gogoro Launches Battery Swapping Service in Bogotá, Colombia

Gogoro, a leading provider of electric scooters and battery swapping technology, announced its Colombian debut today in partnership with Terpel, a major fuel and lubricant company. Terpel will offer Gogoro’s battery swapping service under its Voltex brand, initially at four Terpel service stations in Bogotá.

Gogoro and Terpel: A Partnership for Sustainable Urban Mobility

This collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable two-wheel transportation in Colombia and Latin America. Gogoro’s battery swapping system addresses limitations of traditional plug-in charging by offering a convenient and rapid alternative.

“Gogoro Swap & Go battery swapping is a safe, reliable, and ideal solution for urban riders in cities like Bogotá,” said Horace Luke, Gogoro’s founder and CEO, highlighting the company’s extensive experience with over 590 million battery swaps completed to date.

Oscar Bravo, Terpel’s president, emphasized the company’s commitment to Colombian decarbonization goals. “Gogoro’s battery swapping complements our existing services by providing users with a seamless battery swap experience in seconds,” he stated, expressing hope for wider adoption of this new mobility solution.

Expansion Plans and Gogoro Smartscooters

The initial rollout encompasses four Bogotá locations, with plans to reach fourteen stations by year-end, followed by expansion to other Colombian cities like Medellín.

Motored, a leading Colombian two-wheel distributor, will spearhead the marketing of Gogoro’s Smartscooters. These electric scooters will be available alongside Gogoro’s innovative battery swapping network.

Gogoro’s battery swapping system is recognized as the world’s leading platform for lightweight urban vehicles by Guidehouse Insights. This smart and safe system offers continuous optimization, creating a dynamic and versatile experience for riders, businesses, and communities.

Gogoro’s Global Success and Environmental Impact

In Taiwan, Gogoro boasts a network supporting over 600,000 riders with more than 1.4 million smart batteries circulating through a network of over 2,500 locations with 12,500 swapping stations. Gogoro currently holds over 90% market share for electric two-wheelers in Taiwan, with their swapping stations outnumbering traditional gas stations.

Gogoro’s system has facilitated over 400,000 daily battery swaps and a total exceeding 570 million to date. This innovative technology has contributed to a reduction of over 870,750 tons of CO2 emissions since its launch in 2015.
