The 35th BMW International Open promises an exciting week of golf with a stellar lineup featuring crowd favorite Miguel Ángel Jiménez (ESP), making his first appearance in Munich since 2013, and hometown hero Marcel Siem (GER). The tournament, held from July 3rd to 7th at Golfclub München Eichenried, also marks the farewell of legendary German golfer Bernhard Langer from the DP World Tour.
Jiménez, known for his charismatic presence and exceptional skill, has a rich history with BMW tournaments, including his memorable 2004 victory at the BMW International Open. “BMW tournaments have always been fantastic events and I have many fond memories of Munich, the fans, the atmosphere, and of course winning the tournament in 2004,” said Jiménez.
Marcel Siem, who grew up at the Golfclub München Eichenried where his parents managed the catering, is eagerly anticipating the event. “This tournament is always special for me. Furthermore, I really don’t want to miss Bernhard’s farewell,” he said.
The field also includes former winners Thomas Bjørn (DEN), Danny Willett (ENG), defending champion Thriston Lawrence (RSA), and Thomas Pieters (BEL). Fans will see Bjørn, a Ryder Cup veteran, aiming to secure his third win in Munich, while Willett, a past Masters champion, seeks to repeat his 2012 success.
Ryan Fox (NZL), who won the BMW PGA Championship last year, returns with high hopes after a strong performance in 2022. “I’m delighted to be back playing in Munich for the BMW International Open,” Fox said.
Adding to the excitement, the first professional to score a hole-in-one on the 17th hole will drive away in the all-electric BMW i5 Touring, manufactured in Dingolfing, Bavaria.
The BMW International Open will not only showcase top-tier golf but also celebrate the legacy of Bernhard Langer, with many of his long-time colleagues and fellow competitors set to participate, ensuring a fitting tribute to one of the sport’s greats.
