In a significant move towards advancing electric mobility in India, the Electric Vehicle Taskforce under the Ministry of Heavy Industries spearheaded its inaugural stakeholder consultation on the policy and regulatory framework for Battery Swapping.
Led by Dr Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Additional Secretary of the Ministry Of Heavy Industries, Government of India, the consultation brought together Battery Swap Operators (BSOs), Fleet Operators, and representatives from various Ministries.
The discussions, steered by Dr Himani Jain, Senior Programme Lead at the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW), and Mr Dilip Chenoy from the India Battery Swapping Association, delved into the potential of battery-swapping technology to accelerate electric mobility adoption in the country. Key focus areas included addressing immediate and long-term challenges related to infrastructure, operations, and policy interventions necessary for the widespread implementation of battery-swapping solutions.
Notably, stakeholders from diverse sectors actively contributed their insights and perspectives, fostering a comprehensive dialogue aimed at shaping robust policies conducive to battery-swapping scaling in India.
This collaborative initiative, in harmony with India’s Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem vision, underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable transportation, as outlined in the #ViksitBharat framework. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Heavy Industries in partnership with leading industry bodies such as FICCI, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Confederation of Indian Industry, the EV task force seeks to gather actionable insights and recommendations to propel Electric Vehicle adoption across the country.
