Nissan Names Shinichi Kiga as Executive Director for Super GT GT500 Teams

In a strategic move aimed at revitalizing its motorsports division, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) have appointed Shinichi Kiga as the new executive director for Nissan’s Super GT GT500 teams.

Bringing to the table a wealth of experience spanning over three decades, Kiga’s career trajectory within Nissan is marked by notable achievements and pioneering contributions. Joining Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in 1990, Kiga swiftly rose through the ranks, showcasing his prowess in engine and powertrain development, alongside adeptness in product planning.

Kiga’s standout role as the Chief Engineer for the groundbreaking KR20DDET engine underscores his innovative spirit. Overseeing the development of the world’s first variable compression ratio engine, he solidified his reputation as a trailblazer in the automotive industry.

On April 1st, 2024, Kiga commenced his tenure at Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. as Senior Vice President, assuming responsibility for the development and planning of its motorsports division. Concurrently, he was appointed as the executive director for Nissan’s Super GT GT500 teams, cementing his pivotal role in steering the company’s racing endeavors towards success.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Kiga emphasized the honor bestowed upon him, coupled with the weighty responsibility of reclaiming championship glory for Nissan. “Fully utilizing my experience at Nissan in powertrain development and as a project leader, I would like to provide opportunities for all the Nissan GT500 teams to maximize their performance,” stated Kiga, outlining his vision for the future. “I am determined to work hard and make quick and decisive decisions to improve the results of all Nissan teams.”

Kiga succeeds Motohiro Matsumura, who has served as the executive director since 2019. Matsumura’s transition to the role of executive partner signifies continuity and collaboration within Nissan’s motorsports division, ensuring a seamless transition and bolstering support for Kiga in his new capacity.

With Kiga at the helm, Nissan anticipates a resurgence in its Super GT GT500 endeavors, fueled by innovation, strategic planning, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
