Lexus, renowned for its commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive luxury, has unveiled its immersive art installation, “Time,” at Milan Design Week, offering a glimpse into the future of next-generation mobility and its boundless possibilities.
Situated at Art Point and Art Garden within the Superstudio Più in Milan’s Tortona design district, the exhibition invites visitors to explore a world where software and hardware converge to redefine the concept of luxury and sustainability in transportation. Open until April 21, 2024, the installation promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.
Simon Humphries, Chief Branding Officer at Lexus, explains, “‘Time’ is more than just a theme; it’s a philosophy that underscores our belief in the inseparable relationship between experience and time. We are dedicated to providing unique experiences that transcend expectations, and this installation reflects our commitment to human-centered design in an era where technology enables cars to anticipate and evolve with the customer.”
Inspired by Lexus’s next-generation battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept model LF-ZC, the installation features works by Hideki Yoshimoto / Tangent, winner of the inaugural LEXUS DESIGN AWARD, in collaboration with musician Keiichiro Shibuya, and Dutch solar designer Marjan van Aubel.
At Art Point, “Beyond the Horizon” by Hideki Yoshimoto / Tangent immerses visitors in a world of light and sound, depicting a future of mobility that evolves infinitely through software. Meanwhile, at Art Garden, Marjan van Aubel’s “8 Minutes and 20 Seconds” explores the potential synergy between energy, software, and sustainability, harnessing solar power to create an interactive experience.
The installation seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, exemplified by the integration of Japanese Echizen washi paper infused with bamboo fibers, symbolizing Lexus’s commitment to sustainability and luxury.
Keiichiro Shibuya’s sound installation piece, “Abstract Music,” complements the exhibition concept, creating a dynamic auditory experience that evolves in real time, mirroring the ever-changing nature of the horizon.
“Time” invites visitors to contemplate the future of mobility, where personalized experiences and sustainability converge to redefine the luxury automotive landscape. Lexus’s vision of a world where software anticipates the needs of users and continuously evolves promises to shape the future of transportation.
The installation serves as a testament to Lexus’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and the pursuit of excellence in the automotive industry, setting a new standard for luxury and mobility.
