In a significant stride towards revolutionizing the electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape, EVgo Inc. announced that over 50 EV models are now eligible for its groundbreaking Autocharge+ feature. This innovation marks a milestone in the company’s quest to deliver seamless and hassle-free charging experiences for EV drivers across the nation.
Since its launch in September 2022, Autocharge+ has rapidly gained traction within the EVgo network. In a testament to its success, the percentage of charging sessions initiated using Autocharge+ nearly doubled in 2023, constituting approximately 17% of all charging sessions initiated in the fourth quarter alone.
Autocharge+ presents a paradigm shift in the EV charging ecosystem, eliminating the need for drivers to open an app, swipe a credit card, or tap an EVgo program card to initiate a fast charging session. This seamless process not only enhances convenience but also streamlines the charging experience for EV owners.
The feature is widely accessible, with most EVs equipped with CCS connectors supporting Autocharge+. Furthermore, Tesla models compatible with the CCS Combo 1 Adapter can also leverage this innovative functionality. EVgo aims to further expand Autocharge+ accessibility by extending support through its integrated NACS connectors once implemented network-wide.
Stacey Stewart, Senior Vice President of Charging at EVgo, emphasized the pivotal role of Autocharge+ in driving widespread EV adoption in the United States. “The key to achieving widespread EV adoption in the U.S. is giving EV drivers a convenient, streamlined charging experience, and Autocharge+ does just that,” Stewart stated. “Through our collaboration with automakers and ongoing interoperability testing with new and existing EV models, EVgo continues to enhance the customer experience across the network for everyone – no matter which EV model they choose to drive.”
EVgo’s relentless commitment to innovation underscores its position as one of the nation’s largest public fast-charging networks for electric vehicles. With Autocharge+ set to redefine the EV charging landscape, the company is poised to further accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility solutions.
