Nissan Commits to Formula E Until 2030, Reinforcing Ambition 2030 Electrification Plans

In a significant announcement today, Nissan solidified its commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until at least 2030, aligning with its Ambition 2030 electrification plans. The commitment, spanning from Season 13 to Season 16 (2029/30), underscores Nissan’s dedication to advancing electric mobility solutions through the world’s most innovative laboratory for electric racing technology.

During a press conference held in Tokyo ahead of Japan’s inaugural Formula E race, Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, officially signed the registration document for car manufacturers in the FIA Formula E World Championship alongside FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki and Formula E Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dodds. This formal agreement cements Nissan as the first constructor confirmed to participate in Formula E until 2030.

With this decision, Nissan extends its involvement in Formula E to at least 12 years, marking its longest-ever commitment to an FIA World Championship. Formula E provides an ideal platform for Nissan to develop electric vehicle technology and compete against top-tier competition, furthering the company’s Ambition 2030 initiative, aimed at becoming a leading electrified car manufacturer.

Nissan’s Ambition 2030 plan focuses on electrification, intending to introduce 34 electrified models between fiscal year 2024 and 2030, with electrified vehicles expected to constitute 40% of its global model mix by fiscal year 2026 and 60% by the decade’s end.

The next generation of Formula E, featuring GEN4 technology, promises cutting-edge advancements including enhanced energy efficiency with regeneration capacity up to 700kW and increased power output up to 600kW, along with safety innovations. This significant leap in electric vehicle racing technology aligns with Nissan’s broader environmental goals and commitment to sustainable racing.

Since joining Formula E ahead of Season 5, Nissan has continuously expanded its Formula E operations, including relocating the Nissan Formula E Team headquarters to the Paris area for enhanced facilities. As a global brand, Nissan operates in every country on the current Formula E calendar, utilizing the series to promote EV technology worldwide.
