Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has unveiled the commencement of the second cohort of the Certificate Programme on Fundamentals of EVs and Charging Infrastructure. This initiative is a response to the increasing demand for skilled professionals driven by the burgeoning electric vehicle era in India’s automotive sector.
The Certificate Programme on Fundamentals of EVs and Charging Infrastructure is meticulously designed to address the evolving needs of this emerging industry, aligning with the Government of India’s initiatives to spark a green revolution. With the country’s EV market projected to grow at a remarkable compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49% from 2022 to 2030, it is anticipated that annual EV sales could exceed one crore units by 2030, generating an estimated five crore direct and indirect jobs.
This five-month online program, comprising 55 hours of learning, targets mid-career professionals seeking to thrive in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle industry. Participants will gain essential skills for developing innovative products, processes, and infrastructure that promote sustainability and environmental conservation.
The inaugural cohort showcased a diverse range of industry backgrounds, with 20% from the Electrical & Electronics sector, followed by Automotive and Energy domains (16%). Additionally, the Computer Networking, Software & IT industry contributed 14%, indicating a strong inclination towards technology-driven solutions in the EV sector.
Professionals from sectors such as Sales & Marketing Services, Design & Education, and Mining & Metals each constituted 6%, showcasing the program’s broad appeal across various professional domains. Participants had the unique opportunity to visit and engage at the Centre for Automotive and Tribology Lab at IIT Delhi, where they crafted batteries and gained insights into battery design fundamentals under faculty guidance.
Speaking on the program’s launch, Dr. Santanu Kumar Mishra, Professor at IIT Delhi, expressed pride in introducing the Certificate Programme on Fundamentals of EVs and Charging Infrastructure. He emphasized IIT Delhi’s commitment to empowering learners to excel in electric transportation and drive industry innovation towards a greener, more sustainable future.
Recent reports indicate the government’s efforts to develop a distinct EV manufacturing policy, alongside schemes like FAME and Production-Linked Incentives (PLI) for Auto and Auto Component sectors. A McKinsey & Company survey on EV adoption in India underscores the growing preference for EVs among consumers, driven by sustainability concerns.
Enrolling in the Certificate Programme on Fundamentals of EVs and Charging Infrastructure equips professionals with managerial competencies across various modules such as EV Charging Infrastructure, Battery Technology, Communication and Security, among others. Delivered via an Interactive Learning platform, the program offers a one-day immersion experience at the prestigious institution.
Upon completion, learners can explore careers as Battery Engineers, Charging Infrastructure Specialists, Power Electronics Engineers, and more, contributing to the advancement of the electric vehicle ecosystem in India.
