MG Motor India presently offers two electric vehicles in the Indian market: the Comet EV and the ZS EV. Recent developments suggest that the company is gearing up to introduce another EV, as it has filed a trademark for the name ‘Excelor EV’. However, at present, no specific details regarding this electric vehicle have been disclosed, and it’s important to note that filing a trademark does not guarantee the launch of a new vehicle.
Last year, MG filed a design patent for the Baojun Yep, a compact electric SUV that shares its platform with the Comet EV. Both vehicles utilize MG’s Global Small Electric Vehicle platform (GSEV). The Baojun Yep Plus, a variant of the Yep with a 5-door configuration, also features a 3-door body style. It is plausible that MG might adopt the name Excelor EV for its version of the Baojun Yep, but an official confirmation from the brand is awaited.
In other updates, MG recently enhanced the Comet EV with fast charging capability. The new Excite FC and Exclusive FC variants of the Comet EV now offer fast charging support. Priced at ₹8.24 lakh and ₹9.14 lakh respectively (ex-showroom), these FC variants supersede the previous Push, Play, and Pace variants with their enhanced features.
