India won’t customize its policies to suit Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer based in the United States, as stated by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

He asserted that the country’s laws and tariff regulations will be designed to attract all-electric vehicle manufacturers globally, emphasizing that the government aims to foster a vibrant EV ecosystem to reduce carbon emissions and decrease the significant oil import bill.

Goyal clarified that the government will not create policies specific to any individual company, in responding to Tesla’s request for tariff concessions.

The minister highlighted ongoing initiatives involving consultations with stakeholders and potential investors worldwide, affirming a commitment to encouraging all-electric vehicle manufacturers to establish a presence in India.

Goyal reiterated the government’s recognition of the multifaceted benefits of promoting electric mobility, addressing environmental concerns, reducing pollution, and contributing to economic growth and stability.
