German automaker Mercedes-Benz foresees India rising to become its third-largest market in the ‘Region Overseas’ within the next 2-3 years. Despite being the fifth largest market currently, after Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Turkey, India is gaining significance.

The Head of Region Overseas, Sagree Sardien, expressed confidence in this trajectory, citing India’s strategic importance and the continuous double-digit growth in sales of high-end models.

Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce 12 new models, including three electric vehicles, this year. The company aims to extend its footprint to 10 new locations, targeting smaller cities.

While acknowledging slow electrification growth, Sardien emphasized their commitment to an electric future, aligning with customer preferences.

Mercedes-Benz India achieved its highest-ever sales of 17,408 units in 2023, and Sardien envisions the luxury car market in India reaching 1 lakh units by the end of the decade, contingent on customer transitions to electric vehicles.
