LG Energy Solution and Honda today marked Leap Day by erecting the final structural steel beam at the joint venture's new EV battery production facility being constructed near Jeffersonville, Ohio.

On Leap Day, LG Energy Solution and Honda celebrated a significant achievement in the construction of their joint venture’s electric vehicle (EV) battery production facility near Jeffersonville, Ohio. The companies raised the final structural steel beam, marking a pivotal moment in the project’s progress. This milestone comes nearly a year after the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansive facility, which spans over 2 million square feet and is slated for completion by the end of 2024.

With a projected investment of $4.4 billion and the creation of approximately 2,200 new jobs, the joint venture is set to commence mass production of pouch-type lithium-ion batteries in 2025. These batteries will be supplied to Honda’s auto plants for the production of EVs destined for the North American market.

Bob Lee, CEO of the LG Energy Solution-Honda joint venture, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “Today is an important milestone for the LG Energy Solution-Honda team as the structure of the EV battery production facility takes its final shape. One year ago, we were breaking ground in an empty field and today we can see the finish line for this project, and we want to thank everyone working at the site and the local community who have made this possible.”
