Vinfast Auto, which initiated the construction of its electric car plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on February 25, 2024, has secured a design patent for one of its electric scooters in India.

Renowned for its premium electric cars, VinFast also offers electric scooters, including the Klara S, for which it has filed a design trademark in India.

With a hub motor (1.8kW nominal power, 3kW peak power) and a claimed top speed of 78kph, the Klara S features an LFP battery (3.5kWh capacity) distinguishing it from the Li-Ion-powered TVS iQube.

Despite the heavier LFP battery, VinFast has managed to maintain a weight of 122kg, ensuring a range of 194km with a 65kg rider at a steady 30kph.

The 14-inch front wheel, front and rear disc brakes, 23-litre boot size, and a claimed 760mm seat height contribute to the scooter’s appeal.

While priced at the equivalent of Rs 118,000 in Vietnam, the Indian market entry and pricing strategy remain to be seen, with the design patent signalling a potential foray into India’s burgeoning electric two-wheeler sector.
