Skoda Auto, the well-known Czech automaker, has announced ambitious plans to begin assembling electric vehicles (EVs) in India by 2027, according to a senior company official.
Petr Janeba, Skoda Auto India Brand Director, revealed ongoing tests on the electric SUV Enyaq, hinting at its potential launch in India this year. The company is committed to electric mobility, with plans to introduce six EV models in the next three years.
Janeba indicated the goal of establishing full EV assembly operations in India by 2027, aligning with the government’s initiative to achieve 30% EV sales by 2030.
Until then, possibilities such as importing completely built units (CBU) by 2024 are being explored, depending on regulations. Skoda’s growth strategy in India includes a compact SUV launch next year and a focus on electric mobility, starting with a ‘testing the waters’ strategy for CBU imports before deeper involvement in local assembly.
Sales projections for the compact SUV are optimistic, potentially doubling Skoda volumes in India and expanding sales networks to tier III and IV cities.
