Karnataka Dominates EV Landscape With 3.31 Lakh Electric Vehicles And 5,059 Charging Stations

In a recent announcement by the Union Ministry of Power, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) revealed that Karnataka has secured the leading position in the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The data indicates that the state now hosts 5,059 EV charging stations.

As per information from the Central government, Karnataka boasts 3.31 lakh EVs with 5,059 charging stations, surpassing Delhi with 2.74 lakh EVs and 1,886 charging stations, Uttar Pradesh with 7.45 lakh EVs and 583 charging stations, Tamil Nadu with 2.20 lakh EVs and 643 charging stations, Kerala with 1.39 lakh EVs and 958 charging stations, Maharashtra with 4.15 lakh vehicles and 3,079 charging stations, and Rajasthan with 2.33 lakh vehicles and 500 charging stations. This underscores Karnataka’s achievement in outpacing Maharashtra and Delhi in the number of EV charging stations nationwide.

Bengaluru Urban District takes the lead with 4,281 public charging stations, making up 85 per cent of the entire charging infrastructure in the state. Despite Uttar Pradesh having the highest number of EVs in the country at 7.45 lakh, followed by Maharashtra with 4.15 lakh, Karnataka’s current EV count stands at 3.31 lakh.

Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom), the primary entity for EV charging infrastructure in Karnataka, reports a notable growth in registered EVs from 9,703 in 2020 to 33,306 in 2021, 95,892 in 2022, as well as 1.52 lakh in 2023.

With an 8 per cent adoption rate amid the expanding EV landscape nationwide, Karnataka showcases its dedication to reshaping the mobility sector.
