Over 7.3 Lakh E-2 Wheelers Registered In FY23-24 by February 6, 2024

In a strategic move to adapt to the evolving electric vehicle (EV) market, the Indian government has slashed subsidies for electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws) under the FAME India Scheme Phase II. The subsidy per unit has been reduced from 40% to 15% of the ex-factory price, effective after stakeholder consultations and approval from the Project Implementation and Sanctioning Committee (PISC).

Contrary to concerns, no slowdown has been observed in the sale of electric two-wheelers across the country post-subsidy reduction. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reports steady sales, reassuring the market’s resilience.

Under FAME-India Scheme Phase-II, incentives are now solely directed to consumers in the form of reduced purchase prices, benefiting end-users and promoting wider adoption of electric vehicles. This move aligns with the government’s push for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.

Additionally, the Ministry of Heavy Industries is implementing two Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes to bolster electric vehicle manufacturing and exports. The schemes focus on advanced chemistry cell battery storage and the broader automobile and auto component industry.
