In a groundbreaking move, Sparkion, a pioneer in cost-effective energy storage solutions for electric vehicle or EV charging, has joined forces with Voltus, Inc., a prominent player in distributed energy resources (DER) and virtual power plant (VPP) operations. The collaboration aims to reshape the U.S. electric grid landscape by connecting Sparkion’s EV charging assets to Voltus’s virtual power plant network, contributing to grid reliability and sustainability.
Sparkion’s EV-centric energy management hub, Sparkion Power, serves as a comprehensive solution for optimizing energy consumption and maximizing the utilization of on-site DERs, including storage, solar, and EV charging. Through this strategic alliance, Sparkion and Voltus are leveraging energy storage as a dual-use asset, linking DERs to U.S. electricity markets. This innovative approach not only enhances revenue generation for commercial and industrial energy users but also strengthens the resilience of the electric grid.
Adi Eyal, CEO of Sparkion, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited that our partnership with Voltus will provide added value to customers who can now leverage on-site energy storage to participate in and earn revenue from electricity markets.”
Cole Rosson, Director of Business Development at Sparkion, commented “We look forward to supporting key markets in the U.S., like the Northeast, that have a mix of strong demand response incentives and high estimated EV penetration.”
The integration of Sparkion’s assets with Voltus’s platform facilitates participation in the virtual power plant network, enabling customers to monetize distributed energy resources through demand response.
Matthew Plante, President at Voltus, highlighted the broader impact of the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with Sparkion will help optimize the use of distributed energy resources, including storage, solar, and EV charging. This partnership will integrate valuable resources into our virtual power plants across the U.S. to provide grid operators with both routine and emergency grid capacity, the purpose of which is to provide consumers with lower-priced, cleaner electricity.”
The joint efforts of Sparkion and Voltus signify a major step toward a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient U.S. electric grid, paving the way for enhanced grid stability and economic benefits for energy users.
