Gujarat Chief Minister Unveils Ambitious Plans For EV Growth And Sustainability

The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit witnessed a groundbreaking focus on the electric vehicle (EV) sector as Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel outlined the state’s commitment to shaping a sustainable future. The ‘Electric Vehicle Manufacturing – Charging Ahead to 2047’ Seminar became the focal point for industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

In his address, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel underscored the state’s proactive measures to attract investors for electric vehicle manufacturing. Emphasizing research and development as a key driver, he highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure a robust infrastructure for charging and maintenance. Gujarat’s strategic investments in charging infrastructure have played a pivotal role in the sector’s overall success.

The Chief Minister showcased Gujarat as a prime destination for electric vehicle production, unveiling a seamless platform for establishing production units in special investment regions like Mandal-Becharaji and Dholera. This initiative aims to provide a conducive environment for entrepreneurs and industrialists, fostering the growth of the electric vehicle industry.

Highlighting the state’s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, Chief Minister Patel expressed the government’s commitment to creating a favorable ecosystem for EV adoption. The policy targets a comprehensive, eco-friendly ecosystem for the entire EV value chain. Gujarat has already embraced electric vehicles in public transportation, with approximately 500 electric buses operational, leading to a significant surge in EV adoption and sales over the last five years.

To drive global green mobility, Chief Minister Patel discussed the automotive industry’s transformation towards eco-friendly practices. He emphasized the importance of research and development in making electric vehicles accessible, affordable, and energy-efficient, aligning with the vision of promoting green mobility.

Quoting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s emphasis on a green and clean environment, Chief Minister Patel reiterated the government’s commitment to combat global warming through electric mobility. He invited industry leaders to actively participate in Gujarat’s electric vehicle ecosystem, promoting sustainability and economic viability.

The summit, themed “Charging Ahead to 2047,” became a platform for representatives of leading EV production companies to engage in discussions aimed at propelling India forward in the electric mobility sector.

Union Transport Minister, Shri Nitin Gadkari, shared insights on India’s potential to become a global leader in the EV ecosystem. Acknowledging the transportation sector’s significant carbon emissions, he stressed the importance of reducing imports and adopting cost-effective, import-substitute technologies for economic well-being and pollution control.

Shri Nitin Gadkari highlighted India’s remarkable progress in the automobile sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The EV industry, now a 12.5 lakh crore industry with 4 lakh crores in exports, is expected to reach 1 crore sales annually by 2030, creating employment for around 5 crore people.

Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey, praised Gujarat’s role as a growth engine in India’s development. He projected India as a global leader in the electric vehicle industry in the near future, citing the state’s remarkable increase in EV sales over the last two years.

Gujrat’s Transport Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi and Minister of Industry, Shri Balvantsinh Rajput, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Gujarat’s pivotal role in fostering a vibrant brand globally through its progressive electric vehicle policy.

In a dialogue on the ‘Emerging EV Manufacturers Ecosystem,’ industry leaders, including Mr. Rahul Bharti of Maruti Suzuki and Mr. Vikram Gulati of Toyota Kirloskar Limited, discussed the challenges and potential transformations in building a robust electric vehicle ecosystem. They expressed confidence in India’s evolving EV technology and its promising future on the global stage.
