As the anticipation builds for the commencement of the 10th Formula E season, all eyes turn to the Mexico City E-Prix, marking the inaugural race for the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The Nissan Formula E Team is set to field a formidable lineup featuring Sacha Fenestraz, entering his second season with the team, and Oliver Rowland, returning to the Japanese outfit after a previous stint between Seasons 5 and 7.
Known for its recurring presence on the Formula E calendar since its debut in Season 2, the Mexico City E-Prix stands as a challenge unique to the series. Situated at an altitude of 2,250 meters above sea level, the track presents distinctive hurdles for both car and driver. The lower air density significantly reduces drag and downforce by 25% compared to sea level, setting the stage for one of the fastest tracks in the championship. Negotiating the circuit involves grappling with reduced grip and oxygen levels, featuring technical sections at the iconic Foro Sol Stadium and the demanding high-speed Peraltada curve.
For Nissan, a pivotal contender since joining the grid in 2018, Mexico holds a special place as the team has earned the admiration of fervent Mexican fans, ranking as the top squad in a recent championship-conducted brand study.
With over 60 years of operation in Mexico, Nissan boasts a rich history in the country, having established its first manufacturing plant outside Japan in 1966. The Mexico City E-Prix not only signifies a sporting event but also serves as an avenue for Nissan to strengthen its ties with the nation, having produced millions of vehicles and engines for both local and international markets.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed confidence heading into Season 10, highlighting the team’s dedicated efforts in enhancing the car’s performance. The focus remains on impeccable race management and extracting maximum pace from the Nissan e-4ORCE 04 to secure a strong opening result.
Drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Oliver Rowland echoed their eagerness and optimism, citing the unique challenges of the track and the team’s readiness to capitalize on lessons learned from previous seasons.
The 2023/24 season marks the continuation of Nissan Formula E Team’s partnership with Shell, emphasizing their joint commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. The collaboration includes the utilization of Shell EV-Plus fluid technology, tailored to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and performance of electrified drivetrains, aligning with the Gen3 powertrain’s requirements.
Additionally, Coral joins forces with Nissan Formula E Team to offset carbon emissions through their transparent platform, leveraging the team’s outreach to promote carbon neutrality awareness.
