UltraTech Cement Limited, recognized as India’s foremost cement and Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) corporation, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to enhance ‘green mobility’. The company has recently launched five electric trucks designated for transporting clinker from its Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh to the Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra.

In tandem with this innovative move, UltraTech has strategically installed three charging stations—one at each manufacturing unit and an additional stop en route. This strategic placement aims to ensure uninterrupted and efficient transportation. The shift from traditional fossil-fuel-based trucks to these electric counterparts is projected to curtail transport emissions by approximately 680 metric tons of CO2 annually.

Speaking on this momentous development, Mr. K C Jhanwar, the Managing Director of UltraTech Cement Limited, expressed firm dedication towards fostering sustainability throughout the operational spectrum. He emphasized the gratification in expediting sustainable transport and underscored the success of the electric trucks’ trial, aligning with the company’s pursuit of ‘green mobility’.

UltraTech has outlined a resolute commitment to sustainable transportation practices, pledging to deploy 500 electric trucks and integrate 1000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles by June 2025, in conjunction with the Government of India’s eFAST initiative. The company is actively collaborating with logistics partners to phase out conventional diesel vehicles by incorporating CNG and LNG trucks into its operations.

Notably, UltraTech stands as one of the pioneering cement entities in India to initiate ‘Green Logistics’ by introducing CNG vehicles in 2021, followed by the integration of LNG vehicles in 2022. Presently, the company operates over 390 CNG trucks and 50 LNG trucks across 17 manufacturing units, a testament to its concerted efforts towards environmentally conscious transportation practices.
