The Delhi government has opted to extend its electric vehicles (EV) policy by an additional three months, as confirmed by senior officials of the transport department and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

The extension, slated to continue until the end of March 2024, is pending cabinet approval.

According to the current EV policy, two-wheelers qualify for a subsidy of INR 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity, three-wheelers are eligible for a fixed INR 30,000 subsidy, and four-wheelers can receive a subsidy of INR 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity, limited to the first 1,000 EVs registered under the scheme.

The impending Delhi EV policy 2.0 is in its final stages of development, aiming to address stakeholder suggestions for increased incentivization, parking benefits, and improved finance options for EV buyers. The new policy’s effective date is yet to be determined.
