Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL), a prominent energy and city gas distribution company in India, has joined hands with Flipkart, the country’s homegrown e-commerce platform, in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) announced today.
The partnership aims to aid Flipkart’s ambitious vision to minimize carbon footprint across various stages of goods movement, encompassing sourcing locations, warehouses, and customer deliveries. ATGL will provide solutions for decarbonization, facilitating Flipkart’s transition to cleaner fuel options, including the adoption of natural gas and the integration of electric vehicles.
Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited (ATEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of ATGL, will take charge of deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout Flipkart’s supply chain across India, spanning warehouses and logistical hubs. This collaboration marks a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions within the e-commerce logistics sector in India, which handles over 8 million shipments daily—a volume anticipated to grow alongside economic expansion, necessitating sustainable solutions to curb associated carbon emissions.
In line with India’s commitments at COP26 to reduce carbon intensity and achieve net-zero targets, initiatives by major players like Flipkart in the e-commerce realm reflect a similar commitment. Addressing transportation emissions is pivotal in meeting these shared goals.
ATGL, co-promoted by the Adani Group and France’s TotalEnergies, remains dedicated to constructing India’s futuristic energy infrastructure, offering cleaner energy solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors.
Mr. Suresh P Manglani, Executive Director & CEO of Adani Total Gas Ltd, affirmed, “Our dedication lies in furnishing clean energy solutions to our clientele, aiding them in accomplishing their decarbonization aims, thereby actively contributing to India’s climate action objectives.”
Mr. Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience & Re-Commerce at Flipkart Group, expressed, “At Flipkart, our commitment to forging a sustainable future involves integrating cleaner energy solutions and embracing electric vehicles in our logistics operations. Through this collaboration with Adani Total Gas Limited, aligned in vision and action, we foresee a pivotal role in achieving our net-zero objectives and propelling the full electrification of our fleet—an integral part of Flipkart’s broader sustainability vision.”
