GreenCell Mobility, a trailblazer in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, has announced a significant development through its subsidiary, GreenCell Express. The subsidiary, operating under the “NueGo” brand for inter-city electric buses, has entered into a power purchase agreement and strategically invested in a 1 MW Wind Solar Hybrid captive power plant in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, with an annual generation capacity of 4.6 million units.
Described as an industry-first initiative, this move is expected to result in incremental CO2 savings of approximately 38,000 tons throughout the lifetime of the buses. The endeavor aligns seamlessly with GreenCell’s overarching objective of transforming into a Net Zero company, as highlighted in a recent media release.
Devndra Chawla, the CEO and MD of GreenCell Mobility emphasized the company’s commitment to both innovation and environmental responsibility. By powering their electric vehicles with renewable energy sources in Madhya Pradesh, GreenCell Mobility aims to set a precedent in the industry, showcasing that sustainable practices can coexist with business growth.
In pursuit of its visionary goals, GreenCell Mobility is actively seeking similar agreements in other states of operation, with the ultimate aim of transitioning entirely from grid power to renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, the company is exploring the implementation of Battery Energy Storage solutions to ensure end-to-end green operations. GreenCell is engaged in collaborative efforts with central and state stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that encourage the wider adoption of renewable energy for e-Buses.
