Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd. has revealed the establishment of a joint research center in collaboration with Tsinghua University, slated to commence operations in 2024. The primary focus of this research initiative will center around effective communication strategies tailored for Generation Z (Gen Z) and the social responsibility of automakers within the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. This includes areas like charging infrastructure, battery recycling, re-use, and energy management.
This joint endeavor marks an expansion of the ongoing collaboration between Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Tsinghua University, which began in 2016. The memorandum of understanding outlines a comprehensive partnership encompassing joint research efforts, human resource development, and exchange programs.
Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainable development and its aspiration to contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive society. The collaboration with Tsinghua University aligns with Nissan’s strategy development in the realm of electrification and intelligent mobility, aiming to support sustainable growth and honor its commitment of “in China, for China and world.”
Uchida expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to deepen Nissan’s understanding of the Chinese market, enabling the development of customer-centric strategies while contributing research outcomes to bolster the Chinese economy and society.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding was coupled with Uchida’s participation in Tsinghua University’s Tsinghua Global Vision Lectures program. This engagement facilitated open discussions and exchanges between Uchida and the university’s students, fostering dialogue with the younger generation in the pursuit of shared insights and perspectives.
