On Tuesday, the Bihar Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy-2023 received approval from the Nitish Kumar government, aiming for a 15% share of EVs in all state vehicle registrations by 2028.
The policy focuses on accelerating the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles through incentives on purchases and the establishment of necessary charging infrastructure, addressing environmental pollution and fuel security concerns.
Key measures include subsidies on Motor Vehicle (MV) Tax, up to 75%, and purchase incentives of up to Rs 1.25 lakh for the initial 1,000 personal four-wheeler EVs. Similar benefits apply to the first 10,000 personal two-wheeler EVs.
The policy also supports environmental quality improvement, encourages startups and investments in the electric mobility sector, and promotes renewable energy for EV charging stations.
Approved tariff rates for high-tension EV charging stations are set at Rs 8/KvA for the fiscal year 2023-24. Additionally, provisions for incentives for scrapping EVs and their components are outlined.
The state cabinet also sanctioned the acquisition of 400 electric buses under the “PM-e Bus Sewa” program for six districts in Bihar, targeting reduced dependence on traditional petrol and diesel-powered public transport.
The cabinet approved revised budget estimates of Rs 95 crore for constructing two auditoria with a seating capacity of 2000 each in West and East Champaran districts.
