In celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Indian Navy has collaborated with TVS Motor Company, a renowned manufacturer of motorcycles and three-wheelers. Together, they have embarked on a thrilling motorcycle expedition across Ladakh, the mesmerizing land of high mountain passes. This expedition, lasting 28 days, rides atop TVS Apache motorcycles and pays tribute to the 75th year of independence as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations. The flag-off ceremony took place in New Delhi, led by Vice Admiral SJ Singh, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, and Mr. Vimal Sumbly, Head Business – Premium, TVS Motor Company, at the National War Memorial.
During this remarkable journey, a team of 34 officers from the Indian Navy’s Motor Bike team, known as ‘The Sea Riders’, will ride the iconic TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and TVS Apache RR 310 motorcycles. They will traverse through Chandigarh, Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, and Nubra, before reaching the breathtaking destination of Leh. The expedition aims to culminate at the National War Memorial on July 12, 2023, covering an impressive total distance of approximately 5,600 kilometers.

Vice Admiral SJ Singh, AVSM, NM, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, acknowledged the Navy’s promotion of adventure activities, which inspire personnel to strive for higher achievements while fostering teamwork and camaraderie crucial for their performance at sea. He congratulated the Sea Riders for undertaking an expedition that aims to enhance maritime consciousness and awareness about the Navy in a significant region, distant from the seas but close to their hearts. He wished them a safe and memorable ride on the TVS Apache motorcycles.
The expedition will be conducted in two phases to cover the vast northern territories and traverse the pristine and captivating landscapes of Ladakh. During the journey, the Sea Riders will engage in various activities to raise awareness about the Indian Navy in the region. These activities include conducting awareness drives at schools and colleges in Ladakh, highlighting the career opportunities available with the Indian Navy, including the Agneepath Scheme. The expedition also aims to showcase the commitment of women officers, who are part of the journey, to the Naari Shakti initiative, thereby inspiring the youth to join the Indian Navy.
As the expedition progresses, the riders will pay tribute to the brave martyrs of the Kargil War at the Kargil War Memorial and honor the heroes of the 1962 Battle of Rezang La. Additionally, a special band concert featuring the renowned Navy Band and a football match between the Navy and the Ladakh Football Club have been organized at the City Centre in Ladakh, adding more excitement to the planned activities.
