At its current facility in Zaheerabad, Telangana, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility (LMM), a division of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), today held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new production unit. The chief guest was Shri. K. T. Rama Rao, the government of Telangana’s honourable minister for municipal administration and urban development, industries and commerce, and information technology, electronics, and communications. Other noteworthy guests of honour included Shri. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS – Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce and IT, Government of Telangana, and Shri. K Manik Rao, MLA, Zaheerabad Constituency.
This is in accordance with M&M’s February 2023 announcement of a $1 billion investment in Telangana. The company plans to use this new facility to construct a cutting-edge battery manufacturing line, create power packs, and create electronic and drivetrain components for electric 3- and 4-wheelers. Additionally, the plant will employ 800 to 1000 people in the area.
“EVs are a focus area for the Government of Telangana, and we are committed to developing the right infrastructure and ecosystem for promotion and adoption of EVs,” said Shri. K. T. Rama Rao, the Honourable Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development; Industries and Commerce; and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications. This new facility will promote the use of EVs throughout India, not only in Telangana. I’d like to congratulate M&M on the official groundbreaking of their new facility. I have no doubt that this facility will significantly contribute to the creation of jobs and the maintenance of livelihoods.
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility is leading India’s 3-wheeler electrification path, according to Suman Mishra, CEO of the company. I want to applaud the Telangana government for its proactivity and laws that make it easy to do business, which allowed Zaheerabad to grow into one of the four major EV production clusters. We will have access to the most cutting-edge infrastructure in the area thanks to this facility.
Last Mile Mobility, the industry’s leader, has made important contributions to the category’s electrification. The new facility has been developed to cut carbon footprint and reduce waste, while optimising efficiency and guaranteeing product quality, as sustainability is a significant emphasis area for the company. By 2040, M&M intends to become carbon neutral.
