Amara Raja Batteries Receives ARAI Certification For Its Electric Vehicle Batteries

Amara Raja Batteries is one of India’s most renowned industrial and automotive battery manufacturers. It has passed the AIS-156 Amendment 3 Phase 2 and got the ARAI Certification for its off-board charges and electric vehicle batteries.

The Government amended the EV batteries testing standards in September 2022 and implemented Amendment 3 of AIS-156 in a gradual manner along with phase 1 in effect from December 1, 2022, and Phase 2 was in effect from March 31, 2023.

Amara Raja stated that its three-wheeler lithium battery packs (7.5 KWH to 8.5 KWH) and off-board chargers (2KW and 3KW) have been certified in accordance with the amended norms. 2 crore km have been completed for the on-road validation and certification of three-wheeler battery packs.

He stated, “We will continue bringing more innovation to e-mobility and are already working to develop lithium battery packs with advanced thermal technology to provide a smooth, safe, and enjoyable EV riding experience.”

In the past few years, the company has focused on developing lithium-ion battery chemistries that are specifically tailored for India. It supplies chargers and lithium battery packs to select OEMs of two- and three-wheelers. Amara Raja also plans to establish state-of-the-art research facilities and manufacturing facilities at Giga Scale. These facilities will primarily be focused on Li-Ion batteries and battery packs. It will cost Rs 9,500 crore for the next 10 years and will eventually produce around 16 GWh.
