Fully electric trucks are in high demand due to the introduction of zero-emission zones around the globe. Bucher Municipal, a major supplier of municipal vehicles such as street sweepers, winter maintenance gear, refuse vehicles and sewer cleaning trucks, has teamed up with Volvo Trucks in order to create an all-electric sewer cleaner based on the Volvo FL Electric truck.

“We have optimized our city sewer technology to meet the special requirements of working in urban areas, where regulations concerning CO 2, diesel emissions have been tightened,” Per Lovring CEO Bucher Municipal Dan.

Bucher Municipal expects that 80 of their cleaning vehicles will have zero emission Volvo trucks by 2023.

“Electrification vehicles such as ours can be challenging, but Volvo Trucks has shown over many years that they are able to provide highly reliable and documented battery solutions for buses and trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles.” Per Lovring says that the partnership with Volvo Trucks is a win/win situation.

Volvo Trucks’ goal is to have electric models account for half its truck sales by 2030. Volvo Trucks, with 42% of the European market for heavy-all-electric trucks, was Europe’s market leader in 2021.

“With the agreement with Bucher Municipal we are making a very important strategic move towards electrifying one our most difficult and challenging tasks in urban environments. Bucher Municipal is a great strategic partner and we hope the collaboration will bring new insights that will help us achieve our goal of electrifying all applications,” Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, comments.
