Log9 Materials Launches India’s First Indigenous Cell Manufacturing Line

Bengaluru-headquartered advanced battery-technology and deep-technology startup Log9 Materials today unveiled India’s first indigenously-developed cell manufacturing facility at Log9 campus, Jakkuru, Bengaluru, thereby in effect taking the very first step towards making India self-reliant (thus enabling #AatmanirbharBharat) in meeting the nation’s future electric mobility goals.

Log9 has built the largest cell manufacturing plant in South East Asia. This development gives India a fresh lease of life in its vision for electric mobility. At a time where most of India’s batteries and cells are imported from other countries this is a significant step forward. This milestone places India on the international map of deep-tech companies, which will allow Indian startups to shine in deep-tech in the future.

Log9 Materials proudly referred to the inauguration of the country’s first cell-manufacturing line as “Day Zero”. This day also marked Log9’s 7th Anniversary, since its inception in 2015.

Day Zero is the point at which we began to reimagine electric mobility in India. It also re-defines innovation for the future. Most importantly, it commemorates the special day that marked the beginning of an unstoppable transformation in India’s EV industry.

This event was held to celebrate Log9’s monumental achievement, and also to address some of today’s most pressing and significant questions and concerns regarding India’s EV-transformation ecosystem.

Log9 has launched a new facility to produce at least 50MWh peak cell production capacity. They then plan to scale up to more than 5GWh over the next 3 years.

At the event, Dr. K Sivan (Ex-Chairperson of ISRO) compared Dr. Vikram, founder of ISRO,’s vision to Log9’s vision and goals for India’s future. Dr. K Sivan stated that Dr. Sarabhai, who emphasized indigenous innovation many years ago, will bring India closer towards self-reliance in energy storage.

He added that materials science and technology competency are the key to India’s future, and Log9 has already done amazing work in this area.

Log9’s pioneering technology in India for indigenously manufactured cells and batteries, backed by high energy density and cell chemistry, will make India proud and self reliant. This will create history for India and the world. Log9 and other Indian companies are leading the charge for innovation and disruption in India. I believe the day will soon come when foreign giants like Tesla could purchase cells from us.

Smt. Gunjan Krishna, IAS Commissioner, Department of Industries & Commerce Government of Karnataka, congratulated Log9 on its remarkable achievement. He said “It’s inspiring and exciting to watch Indian startups like Log9 help the nation achieve its climate action goals and advance the cause of improving our planet. As the country shifts from traditional fuel sources to alternative clean or renewable energy sources, it is vital to develop climate-friendly technologies.

Dr. Akshay Singal, CEO & Co-Founder of Log9 Materials, said that “Log9 is extremely proud to have launched India’s first cell production line. This represents a huge leap forward in empowering India to have the flexibility and scale necessary to propel it into an EV-led future.

Log9 Day Zero is the day India-made cells will finally arrive in India.
