The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is reinviting bids for its “App-based Rental Electric Scooter” project. 1,000 electric scooters will be available at 100 locations in two phases under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

NDMC Vice Chairman, Satish Upadhyay said, “In the first phase, only 500 e-scooters will be set up at 50 charging stations and the same will be repeated in the second phase. These stations were established near metro stations, bus stops, hospitals, railway stations, etc.”

The electric scooters will have an 80 km range on a full charge and can run with 45 km per hour speed with the help of the internet-based application. Users need to use the scooters for at least 15 minutes and after that charges will be imposed per minute.

“There is provision for sitting two persons. The GPS chip-based vehicles will monitor and movement tracked by NDMC Command and Control Centre situated at Palika Kendra,” he added.

NDMC will register all these electric scooters at the transport department for the license requirements and using helmets while riding will be compulsory.

These scooters will reduce the pollution level in the city. This project was delayed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic but after its launch, it will provide last-mile connectivity on electric scooters to users.
