Prototype Of Delhi’s First Electric Bus Arrives, Will Soon Ply On Roads

The first electric bus prototype, built by domestic heavy commercial vehicle producer JBM Auto, has arrived in the national capital and will be marked off shortly by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stated Transport Minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot on Sunday. Recently, the Transport Minister stated in an interview that Delhi is soon to have its first fleet of 300 electric buses by January 2022. The more prominent program, on the other hand, is to have around 3,500 electric DTC buses operating throughout the city. Moving swiftly towards its objective, DTC has already authorized the purchase of 1,015 electric low-floor air-conditioned buses. DTC now operates buses fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG), which while not as polluting as diesel-powered big vehicles, aren’t exactly low-emission vehicles.

Noida Requires E-bus Connectivity – FONRWA

The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has demanded electric bus connectivity in a letter written to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. The e-buses are required between various sectors which are 10-15 km apart where it is problematic to commute. Electric buses are required for better connectivity across the cities for various sectors. E-buses will also help in curbing the rising pollution in the city and its nearby areas. Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) also plans to run 50 buses on 11 routes to connect metro stations. But according to residents, these bus services doesn’t serve the purpose of last-mile connectivity as it will run on metro routes and main roads only.

JSCL Invites Tender For Procuring E-autos

Jammu Smart City Ltd (JSCL) invites tenders for procuring electric autos. These tenders will come under the smart city projects. The officials will also invite tender for electric buses. The e-autos will run on the newly identified routes and will replace petrol and diesel vehicles gradually. The road transport agency identified these routes. 41 routes have been notified for operating electric rickshaws as per Jammu’s regional transport officer. Divisional Commissioner Ragav Langhar has asked the concerned authorities to issue the permissions for the specified routes. The CEO of JSCL, Avny Lavasa said that government will provide subsidies and old rickshaws can be replaced with electric autos.

Chandigarh To Implement Its First EV Policy on 1st April 2022

Chandigarh’s first electric vehicle (EV) policy is set to go into effect on April 1, following a year of negotiations between administration departments and other stakeholders. In the second week of January, the government will release a draft of the policy, telling people about the long and short-term benefits of acquiring EVs. The policy will have a number of elements to attract residents to make the purchase. According to sources, in addition to encouraging e-bikes for short distances, one of the primary components of the strategy will be to provide financial incentives for the purchase of EVs. The UT is considering tie-ups with dealers in exchange for an agreement and free registration.

Bajaj To Set Up New EV Plant With Rs 300 Crore Investment

Bajaj Auto Limited will invest Rs 350 crore to set up a new electric vehicle facility in Akurdi, Pune. The unit will have a manufacturing capacity of 500,000 electric vehicles per year. Bajaj owns another factory in Akurdi for the Chetak scooter. Bajaj will have cutting-edge automated and robotic manufacturing systems at its EV manufacturing unit in Pune. Fabrication and painting, logistics and material handling, and assembly and quality assurance will be automated. The plant will employ approximately 800 people. The first vehicle will be launched by June 2022.

Electric Vehicles Sales in India to Touch 10 Lakh Units This Year: SMEV

The Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) said on Thursday that total electric vehicle sales in India are likely to reach around 10 lakh units this year, about equal to what was sold in the previous 15 years, owing to the high traction seen by electric two-wheelers. SMEV claimed in a statement that sales of electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) in the country more than doubled in 2021 to 2,33,971 units, driven by robust traction of high-speed scooters, compared to 1,00,736 units in 2020. According to SMEV, based on VAHAN statistics, Hero Electric was the top high-speed E2W player by sales in 2021, with 46,214 units, followed by Okinawa with 29,868 units, Ather with 15,836 units, Ampere with 12,417 units, and Pure EV with 10,946 units.
