Arun Goel, Heavy industries secretary informed Lokesh Chandra, BEST general manager that he will think to include double-decker e-buses for subsidy under FAME-II scheme during a visit in the city of Mumbai.
“This is good news for us as we are the first transport undertaking to order double-decker electric buses in the country. And now, this too will be covered under FAME-II shortly and the procurement will be subsidized,” said Chandra.
The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is one of the largest operators of buses with 386 e-buses in its current fleet under FAME-II scheme. BEST will also focus on 100% electrification by 2027.
The double decker electric buses will save operational costs which was not possible with the old double-decker buses. It will also carry 25 percent more commuters than the single deckers.
