Telangana government is planning to permit private recharge stations to set up electric vehicle charging stations on build operate and transfer (BOT) mode in the state. Telangana is seeing a growing demand for electric vehicles and hence setting up more charging stations is important.
The government will set up one charging station for every 5 km across the city and one station for every 27 km on national highways. The government will ask private entrepreneurs and landowners to set up charging stations with the help of the state government on a revenue-sharing basis.
TSREDCO vice-chairman and managing director N Janaiah said, “Guidelines are being prepared for setting up 600 charging stations in the state in addition to 138 stations by the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSERDCO). Tenders will be floated soon.”
TSERDCO has started installing 138 charging stations, 10 each in Karimnagar and Warangal, and 118 in Hyderabad. The number of EVs in the state rose from 2465 in March to 3800 in June and in the last 6 months, around 5500 new EVs were registered.
“The sudden rise in the number of EVs in six months was mainly due to spike in fuel prices in the past few months and also an EV policy was announced by the Telangana government,” an official of TSREDCO said.
