As more individuals are switching to electric vehicles, charging station providers are seeing a surge in demand from real estate developers and residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) in various locations.

While corporations are forging agreements with builders for initiatives that are still in the planning phase, demand for EV charging stations is also coming from housing societies and old colonies.

Citing the government support to be the main reason for the growth of the electric vehicle market, the founder of ElectriVa, Sumit Dhanuka, said as more people are transitioning towards EVs, which is an eco-friendly transportation solution, elevated demand for supporting charging infrastructure is seen from RWAs housing societies.

The company has been recently awarded a large contract by the Delhi government to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure in strategic areas.

Saying, government support is necessary for the expansion of such a network, Dhanuka added, “We’re experimenting with different approaches to work with resident associations because cost and affordability are important considerations for them,”

Kazam, which is working with the government to build EV-friendly infrastructure by placing charging stations in flats and residential areas, plans to construct 10,000 charging stations with Rs. 5 crores investment, mostly in apartment complexes.

The company plans to convert 10% of total parking spaces to electric vehicle charging stations, with expansion underway in places such as Bengaluru, Pune, and Gurgaon.

“Because cars are typically kept at home for extended periods of time, the majority of charging will take place at home, “Akshay Shekhar, Co-founder of Kazam stated.

Shekhar is expecting electric two- and three-wheelers to claim 8-10% and 30%, respectively, of the EV market by 2025. The firm is also assisting RWAs with mobile apps for login, payment, and simple operation.

For its future project, real estate developer Kalpataru will provide EV charging enabled parking. It has previously given this service in certain of its projects.

With electric vehicle adoption likely to surge in the next few years, Parag Munot, MD of Kalpataru, expressed the necessity of creating EV-friendly environments in homes and commercial spaces. “Electric mobility is the future of personal transport”, he added.
