20 companies have expressed their interest in producing Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries for the new Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. These companies are Ola Electric, Tata Chemicals NSE 1.17 %, and Reliance Industries.

“The response to PLI ACC has been better than expected. We have notified the scheme for setting up a manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh, but the interest is more than double of that,” said Arun Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries.

Few companies also participated in a pre-bid meeting held last month. In October, the government released the Request for Proposal (RFP) document which invited bidders for Rs 18100 crores with 50 GWh capacity. Around 100 participants attended the meeting from 20 companies.

A senior industry executive, said, “When we are looking into the details, the localization conditions appear to be too stringent. Besides, there is a penalty clause applicable every day beyond the timelines set for localization. These are posing some concerns for us.”
