Volvo Trucks has achieved a major milestone by selling more than 10,000 gas-powered trucks globally, marking a significant step toward sustainable and low-emission commercial transport. The company announced the milestone highlighting growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles in the global trucking industry.

According to Volvo Trucks, the United Kingdom remains its largest market for gas-powered trucks, followed by Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, and France. The company also identified India and Latin America as emerging markets, where adoption of gas-powered trucks is steadily increasing due to rising focus on cleaner fuel solutions.

Volvo’s gas-powered trucks are available in the heavy-duty FM, FH, and FH Aero series and can operate on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and bio-LNG. Bio-LNG is a renewable fuel derived from organic waste, enabling significant reductions in carbon emissions. The company claims that its trucks can travel up to 1,000 kilometers on a single tank, making them suitable for long-haul transportation, regional distribution, and construction operations.

Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, said that the company’s gas engine technology offers strong power, torque, and fuel efficiency, while delivering diesel-like performance. He added that gas-powered trucks are an important step in Volvo’s journey toward zero-emission transport.

Volvo also highlighted that in several European countries, gas refueling infrastructure is well developed, with all stations in nations such as Germany, Norway, Finland, and Sweden offering bio-LNG. With government incentives and public support, bio-LNG has become a cost-effective alternative to conventional diesel, enabling up to 100% CO₂ reduction on a well-to-wheel basis.

The company’s gas-powered trucks use High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) technology and require a small amount of diesel as ignition fuel. When combined with renewable ignition fuels like HVO, emissions can be further reduced. Volvo emphasized that bio-LNG and other renewable fuels are a key part of its three-path strategy toward net-zero emissions by 2040, alongside battery-electric and fuel-cell electric technologies.

Volvo Trucks delivered around 120,000 trucks globally in 2025 and operates in about 130 countries with a network of 2,200 service points. The company said it remains committed to quality, safety, and environmental sustainability as it expands its alternative fuel portfolio worldwide.
