Indofast Energy, India’s leading battery-swapping solutions provider, has announced a strategic partnership with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to establish 23 battery-swapping stations along the city’s Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor, marking a major step toward integrating mass transit with electric last-mile mobility.

The initiative aims to create a seamless and sustainable urban transport ecosystem by enabling commuters to easily switch from metro services to electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles for last-mile travel.

Under the agreement, battery-swapping infrastructure will be deployed across eight key metro stations on the Aqua Line 3 route — Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. The network is expected to benefit delivery partners, ride-sharing drivers and daily commuters travelling along Mumbai’s key north–south transit corridor.

Commenting on the partnership, Anant Badjatya, CEO, Indofast Energy, said,
“Our collaboration with MMRCL represents a paradigm shift in urban mobility planning, where we’re integrating battery-swapping infrastructure directly with Mumbai’s metro network — the lifeline of the city. By establishing swap stations at these critical transit nodes, we are not just solving the last-mile connectivity challenge but creating an ecosystem where choosing electric mobility becomes the most convenient and practical option for millions of Mumbaikars.”

R. Ramana, Director (Planning), MMRCL, added that the initiative would encourage metro users to adopt electric vehicles for short-distance travel, helping reduce traffic congestion and urban pollution while strengthening Mumbai Metro’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation.

Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery-swapping stations in Mumbai, including its 1,000th station at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The new deployment will significantly expand this footprint, creating one of the densest battery-swapping networks in any Indian metropolitan city.

Each station will feature Indofast Energy’s automated swapping technology, capable of supporting multiple vehicle categories on a single battery platform, enabling quick battery exchanges and eliminating range anxiety and charging downtime for EV users.

The partnership further strengthens Indofast Energy’s role in India’s clean mobility transition. The company works with several vehicle and fleet partners including Zypp, Omega Seiki Mobility, Shadowfax, Triev, Wickedride, Green Drive, Eveez, Hala Mobility, Rapido, Whizz, bluwheelz and Loadshare, and infrastructure partners such as Indian Oil Corporation, Indian Railways, BESCOM, and metro networks in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Nationwide, Indofast Energy operates a network of 1,125+ battery-swapping stations, has completed over 43 million swaps, enabled EVs to travel nearly 1.17 billion kilometres, and helped avoid approximately 62,000 metric tonnes of tailpipe CO₂ emissions, reinforcing its position as a key enabler of sustainable urban mobility in India.
