General Motors (GM) emerged as the top-selling automaker in the United States in 2025, reporting a 6% increase in full-year sales, driven by strong performance across its portfolio of brands, the company said.
The automaker continued to dominate key vehicle segments, retaining its position as America’s full-size pickup leader for the sixth consecutive year. Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra together posted their strongest combined sales in the last 20 years. GM also extended its leadership in the full-size SUV segment for the 51st straight year, underscoring the sustained demand for its large vehicle lineup.
In the fast-growing electric vehicle segment, GM ranked as the industry’s second-largest EV seller in the U.S. in 2025, reflecting steady consumer adoption of its expanding electric portfolio.
All four of GM’s brands recorded growth during the year. GMC achieved a new all-time sales record for the second year in a row, while Cadillac delivered its best annual sales performance in a decade. Chevrolet’s SUV range posted its highest-ever sales, and Buick emerged as one of the fastest-growing mainstream brands in the U.S. market.
Despite the strong full-year performance, GM reported a 7% decline in U.S. sales during the fourth quarter compared to the same period in 2024.
Additional highlights from 2025 include the sale of nearly 700,000 Chevrolet and Buick vehicles with starting prices below $30,000, reinforcing GM’s presence in the affordable vehicle segment. The company also grew sales while offering incentives below the industry average. Meanwhile, GM Envolve sales to fleet and commercial customers rose 8% during the year.
Commenting on the results, Duncan Aldred, Senior Vice President and President of North America at General Motors, said demand remained robust across all price points. “Demand for our brands and products is strong at every price point, and we are well-positioned to build on this momentum in the year ahead,” Aldred said.
GM said it remains focused on sustaining growth momentum into 2026, supported by its strong position in trucks and SUVs, growing EV portfolio, and expanding fleet and commercial business.
