Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a major milestone in India’s electric vehicle safety landscape, as its first global EV, the e VITARA, has received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. The certification was formally presented by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
With this achievement, the e VITARA becomes India’s first electric SUV to secure a 5-star rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program. It is also Maruti Suzuki’s fourth consecutive model to earn the highest safety rating under the Bharat NCAP regime.
7 Airbags Standard, Level 2 ADAS Included
The e VITARA sets a new benchmark in EV safety by offering 7 airbags as standard — including a driver’s knee airbag — across all variants. The SUV is also equipped with an advanced safety suite that includes:

Built on the New HEARTECT-e EV Platform
Developed on Suzuki’s dedicated HEARTECT-e platform, engineered exclusively for electric mobility, the e VITARA features a strong, rigid structure with more than 60% high-tensile and ultra-high tensile steel.
Its battery system is tested for extreme global climates — from desert heat at 60°C to frigid temperatures of –30°C — ensuring reliability in real-world conditions. With 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options, the SUV promises strong performance, long range, and enhanced comfort.
India to the World: Exports to 100+ Countries
Shri Nitin Gadkari praised Maruti Suzuki’s safety efforts, stating: I am especially glad that Maruti Suzuki has shown real leadership by offering 7 airbags as standard across all variants of the e VITARA.
