Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the all-new NEXO, its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), marking a major milestone in the company’s hydrogen mobility roadmap. The new NEXO delivers significant upgrades in performance, efficiency, design and safety ahead of its global launch slated for early 2026.
Hyundai showcased the vehicle to global media in Korea, presenting the NEXO as a flagship model that sets new benchmarks for zero-emission transportation.
190 kW System Output, 826 km Range From a Five-Minute Refill
The redesigned powertrain features a completely new power electronics (PE) system that doubles battery output from 40 kW to 80 kW. The hydrogen fuel cell stack now delivers 110 kW gross output, a 16% improvement over the previous model. Combined, these upgrades boost total system output to 190 kW, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.
A key highlight is the projected 826 km WLTP driving range, achieved from a quick five-minute hydrogen refill, making NEXO one of the most practical long-range zero-emission SUVs on the market. Improved hydrogen storage density (6.69 kg) and enhanced cold-weather operability further refine overall efficiency and reliability.
Improved Driving Dynamics With e-Handling and Smart Regeneration
The all-new NEXO introduces advanced dynamic technologies, including:
- e-Handling for sharper grip, stability and steering response
- Smart Regenerative System (SRS) that automatically adjusts regeneration based on navigation and traffic data
- Aerodynamic upgrades and improved NVH performance with ANC-R noise-cancelling and sound-absorbing tires
For the first time, the European model also offers towing capability up to 1,000 kg, making it the first FCEV with such functionality.
Tech-Loaded Cabin With AI, V2L and Digital Mirrors
Inside, Hyundai integrates a modern Connected Car Navigation Cockpit with dual 12.3-inch curved screens, OTA updates, wireless smartphone connectivity, and AI-powered voice recognition. The premium in-car experience is elevated with a Bang & Olufsen audio system featuring up to 14 speakers.
Key features include:
- Head-up display with ADAS data
- High-speed wireless charging
- Digital Key 2 with NFC and smartwatch compatibility
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support for powering external devices
- Digital Center Mirror (DCM) and digital side mirrors in select markets
- Built-in Dash Cam, fingerprint authentication, and improved driver-assist convenience
Top-Tier Safety and Robust Structure
Designed to achieve leading safety ratings globally, the new NEXO includes:
- Up to nine airbags
- Hot-stamped ultra-high-strength body structure
- Enhanced crash load paths for superior impact absorption
- A full suite of Hyundai SmartSense ADAS, including FCA 2.0, LKA, BCA, SCC, NSCC, HDA, and RSPA 2
‘Art of Steel’ Design With a More Spacious, Sustainable Cabin
The all-new NEXO debuts Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy, marked by bold lines and FCEV-specific “HTWO Lamps.” The SUV is available in six exterior colors, including the new Goyo Copper Pearl, created through a three-coat paint process for added depth.
The interior features expanded dimensions, improved cargo space (up to 993 liters), and Premium Relaxation Seats with leg rests. Bio-materials—including recycled plastics, bio PU leather, linen fabrics and bio paints—reinforce Hyundai’s sustainability goals.
Strengthening Hyundai’s Hydrogen Leadership
With 28 years of fuel cell research and its HTWO hydrogen platform, Hyundai positions the all-new NEXO as a critical step in its multi-powertrain electrification strategy spanning BEVs, hybrids and FCEVs.
The SUV will begin global sales in early 2026, further strengthening Hyundai’s ambition to lead the future of hydrogen mobility.
