Ola Electric has issued a strong rebuttal to recent foreign media reports alleging the company’s involvement in acquiring leaked pouch cell technology from a former LG Energy Solution executive, calling the claims “baseless, misleading, and motivated.”

In an official statement addressed to media stakeholders, the company clarified that its 4680 Bharat Cell — now in commercial production — is built on advanced dry electrode technology in a cylindrical form factor, entirely different from the outdated pouch cell technology referenced in the reports.

The old and dated pouch cell technology, which the report claims was leaked, is not even an area of research or commercial interest for Ola Electric, the statement asserted. Our 4680 Bharat Cell surpasses the pouch cell touted in media leaks.

Ola Electric suggested that the timing of the South Korean publication’s report — coinciding with the company’s ramp-up of Bharat Cell production — indicates a deliberate attempt by a foreign rival to undermine India’s growing strength in advanced battery manufacturing.

The fear of losing market opportunities, including a significant customer in Ola Electric, is prompting the foreign rival to attack an indigenous battery innovation, the company said, adding that selective leaks and unverified replication by some Indian outlets appear dubious at best.

Setting the Record Straight: Facts from Ola Electric

  • 720 patent filings, with 124 patents already granted
  • A Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) in Bengaluru employing over 250 specialists from top global cell technology companies
  • India’s first operational Gigafactory built with a ₹2,500 crore investment

Ola emphasized that its R&D and manufacturing investments are part of a broader vision aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for technological self-reliance under the Make in India initiative.

We will not allow business rivalries or motivated media speculation to derail India’s push toward global leadership in clean energy and battery innovation, the company said.

With the launch of the 4680 Bharat Cell, Ola Electric has positioned itself as a key player in India’s transition to indigenous energy storage technologies, directly competing with established international manufacturers in the fast-growing electric mobility ecosystem.
