Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that it will begin sales of the much-anticipated all-new Prelude in Japan, reintroducing the iconic nameplate as a specialty hybrid sports car for the electrified era.
Developed under the concept of “Unlimited Glide”, the new Prelude aims to deliver the joy of driving through advanced hybrid technology, sporty dynamics, and a design inspired by the graceful flight of gliders. The model will serve as a “prelude” to future Honda specialty sports cars.
Equipped with an evolved Honda e:HEV hybrid system and the new Honda S+ Shift control technology, the Prelude emulates the feel of an 8-speed transmission and synchronizes performance with Active Sound Control, offering an exhilarating and immersive driving experience. The car also debuts a new Coasting Control function, enhancing efficiency and reducing driver fatigue.
Design & Utility
The exterior features a sharp, low stance, aerodynamic roofline, and meticulous detailing such as flush door handles and black chrome grille accents. The interior combines sportiness with comfort, highlighted by a two-tone Blue & White theme, exclusive trims, and a driver-focused cockpit with alloy paddle shifters and full-graphic meters. Despite its sports car proportions, the Prelude provides practical versatility with a spacious cargo hold, folding rear seats, and underfloor storage.
Performance & Safety
Built on a chassis derived from the Civic Type R, the Prelude features dual-axis strut suspension, adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, and 19-inch wheels for precise handling. Safety comes standard with the latest Honda SENSING suite, including collision mitigation systems, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.
Technology & Features
The new model is equipped with a 9-inch Honda CONNECT display with Google built-in, an 8-speaker Bose premium audio system, and customizable drive modes including Sport, GT, Comfort, and Individual.
Market & Availability
Honda plans to sell 300 units monthly in Japan, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price starting at 6,179,800 yen. A limited-edition two-tone Moonlit White Pearl & Black variant will be sold exclusively through Honda’s online platform, Honda ON. The model will also be offered as a rental car at select Honda dealerships – a first for the company.
The launch of the all-new Prelude not only revives a beloved Honda sports car nameplate but also underscores the company’s commitment to combining driving excitement with sustainable hybrid technology.
