General Motors reported record electric vehicle (EV) sales in August, delivering more than 21,000 units across its Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC brands. The surge was driven largely by demand for the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV, as U.S. customers rushed to purchase before federal EV tax credits expire on September 30.

The milestone positions GM as the nation’s second-largest EV seller. Other strong contributors included the Cadillac LYRIQ and GMC Sierra EV.

“August was our best month ever for EV sales – and we expect that buying surge to pay long-term dividends, given our industry-leading loyalty and customers’ overwhelming commitment to EV technology,” said Duncan Aldred, Senior Vice President and President, North America.

While GM anticipates a slowdown in EV demand next quarter, the company remains confident in growing its market share, citing its broad EV portfolio. Upcoming launches, including the new Chevrolet Bolt, are expected to strengthen GM’s affordable and luxury EV segments.

At the same time, GM is investing heavily in charging infrastructure. By year-end, customers will have access to more than 65,000 public fast-charging bays nationwide, with expansion to 100,000 by 2027.

Beyond EVs, GM emphasized that its internal combustion engine (ICE) portfolio continues to drive profitability, especially in full-size pickups and SUVs. Third-quarter sales results will be reported on October 1.
