Volvo Cars has unveiled the all-new XC70, its first long-range plug-in hybrid SUV, offering more than 200 kilometers of all-electric driving under the CLTC testing cycle – the longest electric range yet for a Volvo hybrid.
The XC70, built on Volvo’s new Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform, combines Scandinavian design, advanced safety, and modern connectivity with the flexibility of hybrid power. Initially available for pre-order in China, the model is expected to enter European markets later.
“The new XC70 is a very attractive choice for customers who want the benefits of electric driving but are not yet ready to go fully electric,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars. “It is a cornerstone of our electrified portfolio and will strengthen our presence in the world’s largest car market.”
The SUV features fast-charging capability, reaching 80% in just 23 minutes, and bi-directional charging, allowing its battery to power appliances for outdoor or camping use. Together with its efficient combustion engine, the XC70 offers a combined driving range of over 1,200 km.
Scandinavian design and premium comfort
The exterior showcases a modern interpretation of Volvo’s design language with sculpted lines, an active grille shutter for improved aerodynamics, and sleek vertical C-shaped taillights. Inside, the XC70 offers a spacious, minimalist cabin with premium materials, advanced acoustics, and versatile storage.
Smart connectivity
A 15.4-inch horizontal centre display, paired with a 12.3-inch driver screen and an optional 92-inch AR head-up display, enhances digital interaction. The infotainment system integrates AI-powered voice assistance, over-the-air updates, and app-based remote controls.
Safety and driver assistance
Equipped with Safe Space Technology, the XC70 includes radars, cameras, and sensors for collision prevention, cyclist-aware door opening alerts, lane change assist, Park Pilot Assist, and active navigation support.
Strong financial backdrop
The launch follows a record year for Volvo Cars. In 2024, the company reported revenue of SEK 400.2 billion, core operating profit of SEK 27 billion, and global sales of 763,389 units.
