Suzuki Motor Corporation has officially commenced dispatch of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the eVITARA, from its Gujarat plant in India. The landmark event was marked by a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Ono, and Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki, alongside nearly 600 dignitaries and employees.

The eVITARA, Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV, will be exported to over 100 countries, including key markets such as Europe and Japan. Equipped with an ALLGRIP-e electric 4WD system, the SUV promises both off-road capability and high-performance driving. Built on the new HEARTECT-e platform, it delivers nimble handling while embodying Suzuki’s concept of an “Emotional Versatile Cruiser.”

Toshihiro Suzuki emphasized the project’s importance, stating: “The eVITARA will be manufactured here in Gujarat and exported worldwide, showcasing India’s role in Suzuki’s global mobility vision. The lithium-ion batteries for our hybrid vehicles, produced at TDSG, are another example of our strong commitment to ‘Make in India’ and green mobility.”

Alongside the eVITARA launch, Suzuki’s battery joint venture TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Gujarat (TDSG)—established with Toshiba and Denso—has started production of lithium-ion batteries for strong hybrid vehicles. Initially powering the Grand Vitara, these batteries will gradually be introduced across Suzuki’s lineup.

With more than 1 million hybrid batteries already produced in India since 2021, Suzuki aims to strengthen its role in the country’s sustainable mobility transformation while reinforcing India’s position as a global EV manufacturing hub.
