Nissan unveiled the new Roox, a wagon-type kei car that ranks among the brand’s most popular domestic models in Japan. Entering its fourth generation, the Roox introduces a playful yet premium design, class-leading interior space, advanced driver-assistance systems, and enhanced ride comfort. It is scheduled to go on sale later this year with prices starting around 1.6 million yen, with detailed specifications and full pricing to follow.
Planned and developed under Nissan’s joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors (NMKV), the new Roox is designed to push the boundaries of the kei segment by offering features typically reserved for larger vehicles.
Key Features and Innovations
- 12.3-inch integrated infotainment display – a first in the kei segment
- NissanConnect with Google built-in for seamless connectivity
- Class-leading 2,315 mm interior length, comfortably seating four adults
- Intelligent Around View Monitor with new features such as Invisible Hood View and 3D View
- Enhanced cabin quietness with upgraded soundproofing and improved engine efficiency
Design and Comfort
Based on the design concept “Roomy × Max,” the Roox maximizes usable space within kei car dimensions. Its signature “rounded square” motif appears across exterior and interior elements, symbolizing both spaciousness and playfulness. Inside, the “Breeze concept” interior aims to create a living room-like feel, supported by Melange fabric seats and expansive visibility.
The color palette expands to 17 variations, including new tones such as Celadon Green, Cinnamon Latte, and Seto Blue, along with a unique two-tone option inspired by karahafu, the curved gable of traditional Japanese architecture.
Spacious and Practical
With an extended interior length and class-leading rear knee room, the Roox provides ample space for adults and families alike. The cargo area offers 675 mm length, enough for four medium suitcases. Rear sliding doors with wide openings, Serena-inspired grab handles, and flexible seat sliding functions enhance accessibility and everyday convenience.
Safety and Driver Assistance
For the first time in a kei car, the Intelligent Around View Monitor adds Invisible Hood View, helping drivers see obstacles otherwise hidden. The Roox also features ProPILOT, Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian and intersection detection, Blind Spot Intervention, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
NissanConnect with Google Built-in
The Roox adopts the latest NissanConnect system, integrating Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play. A new Remote Photo Shot feature allows remote vehicle monitoring when paired with an optional drive recorder.
